The Ingenio Short Story Competition – Terms and conditions:

  1. Entry is open to alumni and friends, current students and staff of The University of Auckland. Employees and immediate family of Auckland University Press (AUP) and the
    Alumni Relations and Development and Communications divisions of The University of Auckland are ineligible to enter. Existing AUP authors are eligible to enter.
  2. The competition opens on 1 May, 2014, and closes on 22 July, 2014.
  3. Late entries will not be accepted and no responsibility will be accepted for lost, damaged, misdirected, late, illegible or incomplete entries.
  4. The maximum length of entries is 1500 words.
  5. All entries are to be typed, in English, double-spaced.
  6. Electronic entries are to be submitted via online form
  7. Hard-copy entries are to be printed on one side of A4 paper only and mailed to Ingenio Short Story Competition, Alumni Relations and Development, Private Bag 92019, Victoria St West, Auckland 1142
  8. All hard copy entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form.  
  9. There is no limit to the number of entries an individual may submit but each entry must be submitted individually and each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form.
  10. No personal information is to appear on the pages of the manuscript.
  11. Entries may not contain illustrations or photos.
  12. Once an entry is submitted , no alterations can be made to it.
  13. Manuscripts will not be returned.
  14. Stories must be the original work of the entrant alone and no entry may have been published, or submitted for publication until after November 1 2014
  15. Winners will be notified by 16 September 2014
  16. The prize for the winners is: 1st prize, a two-hour personal coaching session with NZ author Stephanie Johnson , plus $150 of books from AUP, plus a $250 book voucher from University Bookshop, plus a ½ case of Goldie Wines ; 2nd prize, $100 of books from AUP and $100 book voucher from the University Bookshop
  17. The winning entry with the winner’s name, biographical information and photo will be published in a future  issue of Ingenio and on the Ingenio website
  18. The second-placed entry with the winner’s name, biographical information and photo will be published on the Ingenio website
  19. Additional entries may be published in Ingenio or on the Ingenio website
  20. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
